About this design

The kaba is the signature dress of Sawa women, and Ngondo, the annual festival of the Sawa peoples on the banks of the Wouri, is one of the moments it shines brightest. Our Ngondo kaba falls loose and light from neck to ankle, with ruffles at the neckline and hem. The collar, sleeves and border can play with a second fabric.

Loose doesn't mean anything goes. A kaba that's too long trips you up, too narrow at the shoulders it pulls, and a misplaced neckline spoils the ruffles. Made to your measurements by a Douala tailor, it flows freely while staying in place. The KOUTIVA team checks the ruffles and finish before delivery, so it arrives ready for the celebration.

Styling tips

  • Tie a headwrap in the same wax for a polished, traditional look.
  • Choose ruffles in a contrasting fabric to bring the neckline and hem to life.
  • Let it flow freely, without a belt: that's the spirit of the kaba.
  • For a family or women's group, order several kabas in the same fabric.

Choosing your fabric

Orange floral wax, Blue geometric wax and Green leaf wax are perfect for Ngondo, church and family gatherings. Save Gold and green kente for a traditional marriage or a big reception, or use it for the ruffles on a wax kaba.

Frequently asked questions

Is the kaba only worn at Ngondo?

Not at all. It's also a favourite for church, family gatherings, traditional marriages and celebrations.

Why give measurements for a loose dress?

So the length, shoulders and neckline are right. Enter them online with the illustrated guide, or have a KOUTIVA agent visit you in Douala.

Can the ruffles be in another fabric?

Yes, the collar, each sleeve and the border can each take a different fabric from the body, chosen from those offered.

How long does it take?

Our team confirms the timing by phone when they validate your order.
