Wax print is a cotton printed on both sides using a resin-resist technique, an industrial process developed in the Netherlands in the 19th century and inspired by Javanese batik. It was taken up on a huge scale across West and Central Africa, where it became the everyday wrapper as well as the cloth for big occasions.
In Cameroon, wax dresses weddings, Sunday services, family celebrations and association meetings, often as a matching outfit for a whole group. Quieter than large figurative prints, blue geometric patterns are easy to wear as a men's shirt or for work.
100% cotton plain weave, medium weight, 120 cm wide. It feels a little crisp at first and softens with every wash.
A breathable cotton for Douala's humid heat, with enough body for collars and structured shapes.

Frequently asked questions
Will the blue wax fade in the wash?
A little dye may run in the first washes. Wash at 30°C, inside out and on its own at first, then dry in the shade and the blue will stay vivid for a long time.
Which style suits this wax?
For men, the Makossa or Bonapriso shirt; for women, the Akwa wrap dress or the Ngondo kaba. For a wedding, consider the Matching wedding duo.
Can I mix it with another fabric?
Yes, part by part, when the style allows it: for example as trims on the New Bell shirt over a plain base, or as lapels on a linen Sawa jacket.
