About this design

The Dschang tunic has a round neck outlined with piping and a graphic inset on the front that draws the eye. Everything else is kept simple on purpose: a plain body in sky blue chambray or white poplin, clean sleeves. The inset can be blue geometric wax, gold and green kente, or indigo ndop, the resist-dyed cloth of the Grassfields region where Dschang lies.

A tunic is worn long and straight: too loose and the inset wrinkles, too tight and it pulls at the hips. Made to your measurements, it sits well on the shoulders and keeps enough ease for sitting and moving. Your Douala tailor makes it to your size, and KOUTIVA checks the alignment of the inset before delivery.

Styling tips

  • Wear it over plain straight trousers in a colour taken from the inset.
  • With an indigo ndop inset, white or navy trousers make the pattern stand out.
  • Match the piping to the inset for a coherent look.
  • Keep accessories minimal: the pattern on the chest is enough.

Choosing your fabric

Sky blue chambray or white poplin with a blue geometric wax inset for everyday wear; with indigo ndop or gold and green kente for a dot, a christening or a family celebration.
