White poplin
White poplin, the crisp foundation of every shirt
FCFA 3,000 per metre
Width: 145 cm
Poplin is a very tight plain weave in which a thicker weft than warp creates fine, barely visible ribs. It is one of the most classic shirting fabrics, loved for its smooth surface and subtle sheen.
A white poplin shirt is a wardrobe essential, from the office to ceremonies. In Douala it is worn on its own in hot weather, under a vest or jacket, or lifted with wax, kente or bogolan trims.
100% cotton, 150 cm wide. A light, fine and smooth fabric with a cool hand.
Light and breathable, poplin is pleasant in hot weather; it creases a little but irons very easily.

Frequently asked questions
Does poplin shrink?
Slight shrinkage is possible on the first wash, as with any cotton. Avoid the tumble dryer and very hot washes.
How do I keep poplin bright white?
Wash it with whites, dry it promptly and never store it dirty. For shirts with coloured trims, wash at 30°C inside out.
Can I combine it with another fabric?
Yes, part by part when the style allows it: the New Bell shirt is designed for this, with collar, placket, pocket and cuffs in wax, kente or bogolan.
