Wax print is a cotton printed on both sides using a resin-resist technique, an industrial process developed in the Netherlands in the 19th century and inspired by Javanese batik. Widely adopted across West and Central Africa, it is sold as wrappers in countless designs, large florals among them.
In the markets, wax patterns are often given nicknames by traders and buyers, and some end up carrying a message of their own. In Cameroon, bright florals are a favourite for kabas, party outfits and children's clothes.
100% cotton plain weave, medium weight, 120 cm wide. It has good body and takes gathers and ruffles well.
Cool and breathable, comfortable even in strong heat, and it holds the volume of puffed sleeves.

Frequently asked questions
Will the orange fade over time?
Wax colours last well if you wash at 30°C, inside out, and dry in the shade. Direct sunlight is the main thing that fades bright shades.
Does the fabric shrink after washing?
Slight shrinkage is possible on the first wash, as with any cotton. Avoid hot water and the tumble dryer to keep your fit.
Can I combine it with another fabric?
Yes, part by part when the style allows it. The Edea two-fabric dress is designed for it: an orange wax skirt with a mustard crepe or white poplin top.
